Bleeding Art Industries 1st Place for Best Exhibit at IAAPA 2008

IAAPA 2008

Calgary, Alberta-based special effects and fabrication shop Bleeding Art Industries was awarded First Place for Best Exhibit for up to 200 square feet at the 2008 International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo in Orlando, Florida. Located in the First Time Exhibitor's Pavilion, Bleeding Art designed and built an ocean-themed booth showcasing their animatronics, custom fabrication and special effects work using QuickSilver Controls servo motors and controllers.

The show is controlled by a show control system using the popular DMX serial protocol which allows a master show controller to broadcast a packet of information up to 44 times per second (250K baud) over an RS-485 line in synch with an audio track.  The DMX frame contains 512 bytes or "Slots" of data to control such things as lighting dimmers, I/O, and QuickSilver’s servo motors.   Each piece of equipment is pre-configured to only receive data from its Slot.  Therefore, all the show elements are synchronized.

Bleeding Art Founder and President Leo Wieser stated that "the positive feedback received from people around the world was great. They loved what they saw. We were able to showcase what we do in a relatively small space but in a really high quality and experiential way." He continued, saying that "the company has received queries from as far away as Dubai, Russia and Australia for work on theme parks and other attractions at those locales."

Bleeding Art started up in 2002 as a special effects provider for the motion picture and television industry and has since expanded into a custom fabrication shop doing its own prosthetics, animatronics, and other custom work for a variety of industries. It recently designed and installed an animatronics lion at the Calgary Zoo (also using QuickSilver servos). Its work can also be seen at the Calgary International Airport, the Creative Kids Museum, Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park, and on stage for this year's A Christmas Carol at Theatre Calgary and Alberta Ballet's The Nutcracker.
